In the book Shakespeare Bats Cleanup by Ron Koertge, the main character Kevin grows/develops when he gets into many situations. Kevin loves playing baseball but one day he woke up and went to the doctor and had mono a disease. While Kevin is not playing baseball he starts writing poems to keep him busy. In the text it says, ‘‘‘You’re not too sensitive to bat, are you, / Shakespeare’’’ (90). This made Kevin think back to when he was playing baseball so he could get some ideas for his poems. As Kevin keeps thinking back he gets better at poetry. Also, ‘‘‘I was just fooling around / with poetry when I was sick with mono’’’ (72). Kevin keeps writing poems and he is changing as a person. Also, Kevin is changing at how he writes his poetry.
