Shark Nets.

Introduction
There is one very small yet powerful word that springs fear into people’s minds. Haven’t we all been in the ocean and had the chilling thought of what might be underneath us in the murky deep. For the last couple of years Australia has been in turmoil with deciding on what to do about them, Shark culling and shark nets always seem to make the headlines. Just earlier this year we had a man die from a shark attack. The government is seriously considering placing shark nets on WA beaches but I am here to tell you that we will be making a huge mistake!

They cost a lot of money
The government is going to spend over 7 million dollars to install the nets on WA beaches and that is just to get them in the water. Shark nets need constant repair and checking. They need to be checked everyday for holes or sea life that was entangled. This all adds up. 1.4 million a year per net is what it will cost.

All these precious animals are being killed and entangled everyday in shark nets. Listen to this information! Shark nets killed over 15,00 other animals apart from sharks in a 60-year period just in NSW alone. This includes dolphins, whales, penguins, manatees and harmless sharks. It is also decimating the endangered shark population which includes great whites and gray nurse sharks. They are designed to be hard to see for a shark swimming at speed towards it, when the shark swims into it it gets entangled and then has a slow painful death as they are being drowned by the net.
