SHC34-1.1 Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role.

A duty of care is a legal obligation imposed on an individual requiring that they adhere to a standard of reasonable care while performing any acts that could foreseeable harm others. A definition from Wikipedia

Examples how we do this in my setting.

Within our setting we carry out daily checks to ensure that the environment inside and outside is safe before the morning session starts.

We have daily cleaning rotas to ensure the session is clean and we are stopping the spread of infection.

Another course of Conflict and dilemma was when one of my Key children parents had not been together for a long time and both of them had different ways of disciplining there son which lead to inconsistency and the child’s behaviour getting worse. The Mother went to the children centre who was working with her to come up with strategies that would help them. The Dad was not working with her and doing his own form of discipline. Because the parents continue not to work together and we felt that his behaviour at pre-school was not improving. So the manager of the setting brought Mum and Dad together to come up with what would work to help everyone but most importantly their son. So now everyone is working together.

There many different places you can gain support and advice outside your setting for example health visiting, early year’s advisory teacher, social service, child protection, police, fire safety officer, Ofsted, and the internet. Within the setting I would ask for support and advice from the Seno coordinator, safe guarding officer, health and safety officer, behaviour manager and manager of are setting.
