In the last few paragraphs of the excerpt from “Excellent Sheep” the writer, William Deresiewicz, states, “the classroom is the grain of sand; it’s up to you to make the pearl.” By saying this, Deresiewicz is claiming that it’s up to an individual to make the best of a situation. Deresiewicz claims that often college students are too preoccupied with making sufficient grades that they miss out on a lot of the college experience. If I were to make pearl I would want to make one that I wouldn’t regret making. As mentioned by William Deresiewicz, college students miss out on a lot of the experiences that college offers simply because they are too preoccupied with grades. He also speaks about how one must make the most of all situations. A clam
