At 13 Sheldon became a community organizer but his motivation was the same for many of his friends joining gangs and getting in trouble. The lack of a father in their homes. Sheldon used to get into fights a lot before a youth development group moved into the building he grew up in. Some of the directors became his father figures and he straightened up after that. At age 20 he was expecting a child. That next year at age 21 he started The Dove a Tail Project. He started it to help young black men ages 17-24 to know how to be good fathers.
