Denying some peoples options to marriage is unfair and creates a second class of citizens. Accepting adults who are in love and desire to be married will finally be allowed to do so. Same sex marriages, which are now only recognized in certain states, will be recognized as legal nationwide. Married couples are offered quite a few from the government, which is a large reason many people decide to take the fall into weddings. Some of these include tax breaks, insurance benefits, and power of attorney for their partner. If gay marriage was legalized, these same benefits would be given to them. Many couples make the decision to adopt children, or give birth to them, at some point in their relationship. If parented by an unmarried couple, is not protected in the same way as children of married couples. Custody, child support, and examination rights are all very confused when it comes to gay couples, unless of course they are given the privilege of being married. Most cultures have defined marriage as the union of one man and one woman for hundreds of years. It includes slavery and ridiculous waste of workers, or course, the disowning of the rights to women and the completing of those who committed thought and property crimes. It would be a major step forward for our country in ensuring all citizens have equal rights and no one is categorized against based on things such as race, gender, religion, sexual preference, disability, and other factors that don’t determine a person’s self-worth and influence to society. It could be a huge step in ending discrimination against the gay population by acknowledging that a same sex couple is no better or worse than a heterosexual couple. The legality of same sex marriage could possibly lead in a change in the mindset of the general population and an approval of same sex couples. Legalizing gay marriage will not harm anybody, the organization of marriage, and same-sex marriages may even be more stable than heterosexual marriages will always be. Legal marriage is a secular institution that should not be limited by religious objections to same-sex marriage. Religious societies can decline to marry gay and lesbian couples if they wish, but they should not order marriage laws for society at a large cost.
Gay rights activists claim that these marriages should be allowed because it doesn't hurt anyone, but it could start a chain reaction that destroys the whole idea of marriage. If someone wants to marry his dog, why shouldn't he be able to? What if someone wants to marry their brother or parent? Most people doesn’t like same sex couples they take advantage of the benefits heterosexual married couples already have; they could adopt children if needed, take too many visits to the doctor now that they have health insurance through their spouse, and receive tax breaks that current married couples already receive, leaving less money for the rest of us in the world. The society of marriage has traditionally been defined as being between a man and a woman not man and a man or woman and a woman. Most religions consider homosexuality a sin, virtually every religion in the world, including the major ones in this country, consider homosexuality unacceptable. Allowing gay marriage would only further shift the purpose of marriage from producing and raising children to adult satisfaction. It is offensive and a putdown to the religious freedom of the majority to have to recognize a relationship they consider sinful. Marriage is a duplicate and should not be extended to same sex couples because they can’t produce children together. Differing to the gay marriage argument that some different sex couples can’t have children or don't want them, even in same cases there is still the potential to produce children. Apparently childless heterosexual couples sometimes produce children, and medical advances may allow others to produce in the future. Gay marriages confuse gender roles for children.
