The first similarity between Alexie and Superman is they both have expectations. As stated in paragraph six, Alexie is expected to fail. It says in the text, “As Indian children, we were expected to fail in the non-Indian world.” Superman also had anticipations as well. He was anticipated to succeed and never fail. In the illustration shown on the page number one, Superman says, “One failure and you forget all the good I’ve done.” Both have certain expectations. However they do not want to fulfill the expectations, or the expectations are too hard to fulfill. …show more content…
Alexie tries to get his point across to other children that they should try to succeed. It states in paragraph number eight, “ ‘Books ,’ I say to them. ‘Books,’ I say. I throw my weight against their locked doors.” Alexie tries to break down a door. Superman also tries to break down doors, so he can save lives. In paragraph four, the text says, “ I cannot read the words, but I assume it tells me that ‘Superman is breaking down the door.’ Aloud I pretend to read the words and say, ‘ Superman is breaking down the door.’ Words, dialogue, also float out of Superman’s mouth. Because he is breaking down the door, I assume he says, ‘I am breaking down the door.’” Superman also breaks down doors to save
