Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me” is his story of how he found his love for reading. He speaks of his father fondly as being the person who gave him the desire to read. He speaks of his father’s books and how much he loved them (Alexie 583). I like how he speaks of the several sources where books and magazines were available. As you read this you can tell that this young man is a talented, smart man who sets a goal and achieves it. He teaches himself to read much like a child learns to speak by, mimicking the actions of those around them. In this case it’s his father’s actions.
