In the TED talks “My simple invention, designed to keep my grandfather safe,” Kenneth Shinozuka explains his invention of a sensor sock that alerts caregivers when a patient is out of bed by sending an alert through their smartphone. Shinozuka first came up with this idea because of his grandfather who suffered from Alzheimer’s. His aunt was his grandfather’s main caregiver and was endangering her own health because of the constant stress of making sure that Shinozuka’s grandfather was bed throughout the night.
