Shirley Temple “I’ve led three lives: the acting part, wife and mother - which is a career - and international relations. I’m proud of my career, the first one, and I’m proud of the other two, too.” Shirley Temple led an extraordinary life starring in over 40 films and shorts as a child and young adult, being a mother to three children, and becoming a diplomat for the United Nations. She returned to showbusiness to star in television shows later in her life, and published her own autobiography. Throughout her life, Temple remained unscarred by her acting career, never letting her fame change her even after being the most famous child in the world. She started a diplomatic career in 1969 after being appointed by President Nixon as a representative for the 24th United Nations General Assembly, and went on to become a United States Ambassador to Ghana, and the first and only female U.S. Ambassador to Czechoslovakia, just to name a few of her accomplishments. She didn’t slow down and went on to publish her autobiography, Child Star, in 1988. She now has a place as #18 in the American Film Institute's list of the greatest female American screen legends. The best examples being Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, or Lindsay Lohan. Often times than not, these stars we look up to become caught up in the wrong crowd, caught up in an unhealthy romance, or even come from a broken home. Shirley Temple had a strong relationship with her mother, a great love for her father and brothers, and a happy marriage with her husband.
