Love Sick, a dramatic short film directed by Kevin Lacy, takes us through the many cycles of love.
The opening scene skips the backstory and cuts right to the action, which is unique and creates an immediate hook. We see that the woman is yelling at the man, which is always a bad sign. I predicted that she was breaking up with him, and that’s exactly what had happened.
The voice over throughout the entirety of the short film created a contradiction between the audio and visuals. If the audience were to watch the short film without sound, it would feel like a completely different mood. The audience would be viewing all four minutes in third person. However, because there’s a voice over, the point of view completely switches, creating an emotional connection between the protagonist and the audience. Immediately after he spots the girl, there is a montage of what he figured life would be like with her, from getting married, to having their first child together. I personally find this to be very comedic and relatable, since I’ve had those moments with past celebrity crushes.
As his dream girl boards the train, he attempts to chase it. The cinematographer then takes us on this long journey, where obstacles seem to be very apparent for the protagonist. He goes from being unable to make the crosswalk before the cars rush by, to getting hit by a car, and finally, to stealing the Bieber look-alike’s bicycle.
When he finally made it, the train was gone. I assumed that the ending would be something cliche, like the man finding the girl in a random spot, and getting married to her. Though he did spot the woman in a random coffee shop, the ending caught me off
