Turns out the main issue at hand is as technology advances and grows, the amount of volunteers joining the military decreases. Apparently the military has a “troop quota” in which the military needs 80,000 troops each year to hope to replenish its forces. Hence why they are now contemplating whether or not to bring back the conscription. Once I learned what exactly the conscription was, I wanted to see the difference between the draft and the conscription. There are few differences but the biggest that will catch anyone’s attention is the draft is more focused of allowing those who want to join the military to do so, while the conscription will draft all males 19 years of age up until their late 30’s. I was curious about why the military would want to bring back the conscription in the first place and from what I gathered they are being more paranoid than thinking straight. From multiple sources and websites those in charge of the military are more worried something may very well happen in the near future and at this point in time the United States is in no shape for war. Hence the sudden need for military volunteers. However, there is more behind the reason for the crisis, in fact some people would say technology could be just as big as the paranoia if not the whole reason behind why the US is at an all time low of volunteer soldiers. As technology advances the need for soldiers …show more content…
The topic at hand is definitely a controversial one, but at the same time is on a need to know basis for all. Many people, like myself, had no clue what a conscription was or how the draft would later on affect my life. Currently I have figured out why there is a crisis and that there are two sides to the problem given. The “grunt work” volunteers are diminishing as technological advancements improve and replace them entirely. I need to know at what point will technology start replacing soldiers on the frontline? The implied reactions for bringing back the conscription will most likely be negative, unless used in a much more glorified tone. Most people will fight for what they believe in and hold true to that belief as well including the fact that if promised rewards those volunteering will be much more willing than before. Concurrently, some would say obesity, crime, drug use, and even the lack of education is the primary cause for the volunteer crisis. I have found only one source defending that
