The First Amendment guarantees individuals freedom of speech, press and religion. According to this institution, they are not allowed freedom of press nor speech nor religion. Surely the institution gives prisoners Sundays to express their religion; however, many religions dictate that one must practice religion on certain days of the week. When an inmate is caught practicing religion on any other day than Sunday or speaking about their political beliefs, he is put into solitary confinement without food for 24 hours. It is simple; the punishment does not fit the ‘crime.’ To starve a human being for exercising their First Amendment is unnecessary and cruel. Furthermore, the prison needs to accommodate those with medical needs. The institution refuses to treat any inmate with medical need. Yet again, cruel and unusual punishment; the inmates’ time is supposed to be their punishment, however, they are subject to more suffering due to the prison's regulations. On top of refusal of medical care, the prison does not accommodate the expanding inmate population. They force four inmates to share a cell designed for one.
