Should Cannabis Be Legalised Essay

A subject that is constantly up for debate is the legalization of cannabis. Some people would argue that cannabis should not be legalised as it has been proven that if you are a daily user of cannabis you have double the chance of having a psychotic episode or being diagnosed with long term schizophrenia while others would argue it should legalised as it would open up more job opportunities.

The first reason I believe cannabis should be legalised is because it is proven to be just as safe as caffeine if not safer and if caffeine is legal then why isn’t cannabis? Caffeine is a stimulant and is used to minimize sleepiness and help with concentration. If the right strain and dose of cannabis is taken it can also act as a stimulant. For many years nurses and patients have been using cannabis extracts to try and help cure cancer and to reduce the side effects. A recent test on mice was done and it was shown that animals that are given very high doses of cannabis appeared to have a lower risk of developing cancer. New scientific evidence has been released showing that endocannabinoids which are cannabinoids produced by the body can slow down tumour growth , although there is currently no evidence to prove that cannabis can cure cancer as scientists find it a lot harder to research about whether or not cannabis can cure cancer because the majority of people who do smoke cannabis smoke it mixed with tobacco which can cause cancer.cannabis can also help many other illnesses For example a drug called sativex can be used to help relieve pain in the muscles for people with multiple sclerosis. Cannabis is also known to help with the side effects of chemotherapy such as nausea and vomiting. Asthma is a lung disease that causes a person’s airways and it has been proven that cannabis can make someone’s airways open
