“Catch-22” by Joseph Heller is a novel about World War II. Joseph Heller served in the military for several years having his own experiences of World War II and created a book that shares those experiences in a way that one would not expect. “Catch-22” is a unique approach to a book about war creating several chapters out of chronological order as well as making the main character an anti-hero. This novel forces the reader to not only think, but to think about war in a different way. The author further steers one's thinking toward what can be considered irrational, a way of connecting pieces from chapters to create a chronological order inside one’s mind. “Catch-22”, similar to many war books, has horrific parts to its plot. “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller is a novel that provides an array of entertainment from different emotions caused on the pages. This book has moments, sad moments, and even gruesome moments. I firmly believe that a book can be considered for a ban based on who it is introduced to. This book is about real experiences of war and should not be read by younger students. However, at a certain teenage year, I believe to learn more about life, books of this sort need to be introduced to readers of that age. For students to see the absurdity of higher level people with power have, it is only possible to create a belief in more students that the abuse of power is the wrong thing to do. A banning of a book does not allow students to learn more about the cruelty of reality “To be able to face life outside their protective homes and classrooms, teenagers need access to books that allow them to see the bigger world. And there's no better place to explore the larger, diverse, often scary world than from the safe distance a book provides.
