Speech codes focus mainly on preventing hatred between students and are enforced on the basis of the content that is used by individuals. Many individuals argue that speech codes violate the right to free speech whereas it only tries to prevent various forms of harassment. Speech codes enforce political correctness through restricting conduct or speech that results in offensive language and intimidating behavior. According to Barbara Ehrenreich in the article "Teaching Diversity with a Smile", she says that " Minorities by any other name, such as "people of color", will still bear a hugely disproportionate burden of poverty and discrimination."
