One reason that the Electoral College is bad for the U.S. is that candidates only target swing states needed for them to win the election. Candidates do not target states they know they are going to win since they only need 51% of the state to get every vote. If we did not have the Electoral College, candidates would have to give equal attention to every state because they would fight for individual votes. Voters voices are sometimes not heard because they know that a certain candidate is going to win so they do not vote even though they want the other candidate. With the popular vote it would be near impossible to have a tie. Also, with the popular vote we would not have to worry about having a small group of people decide the president. If it was a tie in the Electoral College the Senate would choose the Vice President. There could be a Democratic President and a Republican Vice President or vice versa if a tie occurs. In a tie each state gets only one vote, so Wyoming gets the same voice as California even though there is a 34 million population difference (Document
