Should genetically modified food be allowed in Australia?
According to WHO (World Health Organisation), genetically modified food refers to organisms in which genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally. Majority of the time, genetically modified (GM) food is produced through genetic engineering. To put it in simply, it is transferring pieces of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) from one organism to another. Some popular examples of GM foods include canola oil, corn and potatoes. Hence, genetically modified food should be allowed in Australia as it drastically improves nutritional health and the production process is very environmentally friendly.
