Who is affected by eminent domain? Eminent domain is a law that allows the government to acquire private property for public use by giving the owner of the land compensation. Throughout the years, eminent domain has been used to build several stadiums, including those built in Chavez, Ravine and Inglewood. Both of these minorities have suffered harshly from the stadiums being built on their grounds. To prevent future communities from going through this, the laws of the eminent domain should be altered so that it doesn't give the government the power to build stadiums that tear communities apart. The government should not be allowed to use eminent domain to build stadiums because it alters the culture of communities, forcefully displaces residents, and increases rent, which compels home renters to pay more rent than before. …show more content…
The author stated, "Stadiums can fundamentally change the character of a neighborhood through the increase of property values or the building of new transit routes to and from the stadium, which alters the types of residents who are attracted to an area" (Abdul-Khabir 1). This is saying that stadiums create a rise in the prices of surrounding homes, which in turn brings in new and different residents.
