IT’S RELEVANT. California currently has a higher youth unemployment rate then 43 other states. The unemployment rate among adolescents living in CA is ALREADY 22.2% compared to the adult unemployment rate in California which is 5.2%. Unemployment among youth in our state is only going to escalate with future minimum wage increase in 2016. In 2016, once the minimum wage increases to $10, companies of all sizes will further refuse the acceptance of youth employees. Small business owners especially will have less and less teen employees once the new minimum wage regulations are put in place. This is due to the lack of funding for higher wage employees.
