Young Americans were encouraged to join the war drafts through a lottery box as the drafts began on September 16, 1940. People were encouraged to aid the war efforts by buying war bonds and donating to charity. Years later, joining the military was no longer mandated; it was a choice for people to join and serve their country. Now a lot of people have stopped enlisting in the military as it's no longer a mandatory thing, as a lottery box could choose them to join the war back then. Young Americans should be encouraged to join the military and aid their country as it gives a good sense of patriotism. However, many young Americans are unfit to join the military as they are mentally or physically incapable of joining the military as it would be a major challenge for them.

Young Americans are “Unfit” is a major factor in not having a required year to serve in the military. A statistic was made on how “Unfit” young Americans are, as 80% of Americans are unfit to join the military due to drug use, weight issues, or other mental and physical ailments. Not only are some young Americans mentally and physically incapable of joining the military, but the sense of responsibility is one of the factors that makes it not a required year for young Americans to join the military.
