Dear Mrs.MacMurray, you may or may not have heard of “Shut Down Your Screen Week.” This is an idea that students are prohibited from using any electronic media for a whole week. Electronic media has its pros and cons when it comes to the impact on students in school. There are a variety of reasons why students should have this week's free screens. I believe students should have this week, to be able to focus and interact well all day in school. Students are practically addicted every second of the day. I’ve noticed, and I’m sure you have as well. Being attached to electronics can inflict stress on students and the people around them. An abundant amount of students are struggling in class. They tend to have a difficult time focusing and learning…show more content… In fact, researchers are finding significant amounts of evidence, over time, on how electronics can alter how students think and behave in all kinds of ways. Developing self-awareness and interacting with others is a crucial aspect. Excessive use of digital technology can lead to social isolation, where students and teachers aren't interacting with one another. Richtel suggests “Mr. Nass at Stanford thinks the ultimate risk of heavy technology use is that it diminishes empathy by limiting how students engage with each other.” Richtel further implies a significant effect on relationships in his article. Moreover, this is important for various reasons, because students need to be able to develop social skills growing up. Therefore, electronic media can impact students differently.
