Imagine, you are strolling around your local city, amongst a large crowd swarming the streets and the main attractions. On the other hand, on the street, you notice an elderly old man lying down with a torn blanket and a plastic bag full of his personal belongings. He sits down silently, not making a sound, out of the crowd's attention. The elderly man lies on the ground hidden between the darkness of the two buildings, acting like a blanket from the cruel society. As you pass by, you discover he is holding up a weathered-torn cardboard sign with the writing, "Please help, I need money for my family". Homelessness has been a major problem recently, we need to be able to acknowledge them as humans instead of treating them inhumanely. In our modern-day society, most people discourage their state of homelessness by believing their reason for homelessness is caused by being a "bum" or "laziness". This is a major issue from different perspectives, as according to researchers who have conducted research, people who experience homelessness experience the emotions of losing dignity that follow their homelessness in society. It is far worse than the difficulties and struggles they face in the physical state of homelessness. In this persuasive essay, I will explore how this specific group of individuals experience homelessness, the cost of living crisis, and how they are portrayed by society.
