Social institutes play a significant role in the way society thinks and functions. In the novels A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey these establishments have a great impact on mental illnesses in these communities. Throughout the novels, there are sufficient examples in areas such as setting, characters, and conflicts. In turn, the novels by Burgess and Kesey both prove that social institutions greatly influence mental illness in society in a negative way.
