Both Amanda and Jay Gatsby are characters that are severely flawed on the inside, and it shows as each story progresses from beginning to end. These two specific characters have uncanny illusions as escapism of reality and the current world that they are residing in. Like Amanda, Jay has been deserted before, and this forces him to adjust to a new way of living. Amanda’s character can relate to Jay’s since she too had been deserted. When her husband left her, Amanda had to recuperate from that, along with her children. Also, both characters depicted a sense of tenacity and strength. Gatsby attempts to get on Daisy’s good side throughout the entire story by showering her with gifts. This determination proves that Gatsby is a man who is adamant
