The controversy of men’s superiority over women and only granting certain rights were prevailing in all over the world; in America, women were not allowed to vote before the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Despite the regulations set forth by the government, Equality from the novel Anthem and Susan B. Anthony from the Women’s Suffrage Movement resists for what they think is right for them to have. Although both Equality and Susan B. Anthony fought for finding their own identity, their method of resistance differ in that Anthony fights in a group and Equality fights by himself. In the novel Anthem, Equality searches for his identity by demanding more. He is the character that wants to be educated, which is beyond his role as a street sweeper.
