It is a person who is the legal properity of another and being forced to obey them. In America it started when the first slaves were brought to North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia. Slavery was practice in American in the 17th and the 18th century slaves help build the economic foundations of the new nations. Historians estimated 7 million slaves were imported in to North America most slaves were owned on a large or or small plantation. One-third of the south population was was slaves they were sold from plantation to plantation aparting from their kids and families slaves didn’t know how to read and write but they did send messages as they passed on from singing spirutiuals as they worked,and other antislavey northerns tried to help fugitive slaves escape from the southern plantation. The underground railroad, is a secretive route or safe houses they would escape from their masters if they got caught they would face a huge punishment or get hanged.”Now i’ve been free, i know what dreadful condition slavery is. I have see hundreds of escape slaves, but i never saw onewho was willing to go back and be a slave” (Harriet Tubman). Being a slave was really dreadful, after the civil war thw south was not happy about abolishing slavery. The confederate flag still is known well through America.
