If given the option to genetically enhance children, and allowing them to embody the ideal “perfection,” how would the world be altered from the world we know? With further advancing technology and more innovative medical procedures, the confines of genetic enhancement are being extended further and further. Therefore, children will have an increased level of potential because of their nearly flawless genetic make-up. Genetic engineering is increasingly becoming more controversial as advancements are being made in the field of study. “Gattaca” by Andrew Niccol and “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley both demonstrate the “ideal” societies in which genetic enhancement is well developed and frequently practiced. However, as great as a perfect society might sound, there is always an opportunity cost. Although, genetic engineering might propel humanity forward, and allow people to reach new limits of greatness, it is not ideal because it creates another discrimination barrier, rules out individuals hopes and dreams, and undermines the beliefs of religion.

A supporter of this idea would argue that genetic enhancement can allow people to reach a greater potential and surpass the limits we have already. The reason they feel this way is because with a near “perfect” genetic make-up people will be healthier, stronger, and become more educated. However, say all that was true, that people do become better all around. Is it really worth all the risks you are taking facing discrimination, and possibly not allowing your children to make the most out of themselves, rather than just telling them what they have to be or do. The fact that genetic enhancement will destroy religion makes the question of whether or not it’s acceptable
