A girl during that time did not normally does that act and was also socially unacceptable. These girls, Abigail Williams, Betty Parris, Mercy Lewis, and Tituba were immediately accused of being witches just because they were dancing. To get themselves out of the situation, they accuse other women in the town of practicing witchcraft, because their names popped into their heads, but especially, Abigail, accused a woman named Elizabeth Proctor because she had strong love for her husband, John Proctor. Abigail and John had already had an affair. However, John wanted to forget the mistake he made. Many women in Salem called Abigail names that she was not comfortable or happy about it. They knew she had loved for men in the town, so Abigail took the ingenuity and they were also charged. This seemed like a harmless dance in the woods, it came resulted in the death of many innocent people some were hung and the other one had his head crushed in. Not everyone that was accused died in the event. Everyone who had been accused had two possible choices. These options were to live with a damaged of reputation forever or you either plead guilty. All your personal respect would be lost all in the community. If one died, they would no longer be able to cherish the life or go to heaven because of the lies they told.
McCarthyism was more just than the Salem witch trials. No one was killed or sentenced; they just had a fair trial. All of the people who were accused may have had ruined their reputations temporary, but they could gain that back anyways. This was difficult to do when living in such a small town full of uncivilized people that newly discovered U.S. They also did not have to die and leave many loved ones behind to be
