A utopia is a society that possesses near perfect qualities, and has surpasses war, hatred, greed, and many more adverse factors that can lead to destruction. This ideal society has been explored extensively in both novels such as in The Giver and Fahrenheit 451 and by nations such as China and North Korea. In the end, however, this flawless society is always proven to be unattainable. Thomas Paine describes this opinion on how perfect America is as a country in his book Rights of Man. While many believe that America holds true to all of the qualities explored by Paine, the country invalidates numerous points proven through current events. America correlates to Paine’s interpretation by finding harmony in diversity, but challenges the notion …show more content…
This can be supported by connecting the array of morals, traditions, and culture that forms the people that reside in this country. Paine develops his ideas by stating that America is “made up…of people from different nations, accustomed to different forms and habits of government,” which can be proven through the fact that the United States possess the largest amount of immigrants compared to any other country. These immigrants, 13% of America’s population, come to America with their own ideals and beliefs of what the government should be like (Zong and Batalova). An Asian immigrant would favor community trust, where a Latino immigrant would still be loyal to their home country. Their contrasting views will induce a revolution, as these ideas will play a key role in our society once they are suggested. To further explore the contrast, the country’s most spoken languages are all from different continents (Zong and Batalova)). Hence, it lies true that this country is “made up…of people…speaking different languages,” proving the ability for America to still sustain even with potential difficulties with communication.
