Similes In Ayn Rand's Anthem

Through out the science fiction novel Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, similes are used to resonate with the author’s views on society, and the central theme. The protagonist, Equality 7-2521, lives in a society where everyone is considered “equal”. In this dystopian society children are drilled with the idea that they are on an equal playing field to everyone else in every way. The word, and practically the idea of, “I” is removed from modern vocabulary. I believe Rand uses so many similes because it’s a subtle way to show how ingrained these philosophies are into the character.
