The movie, Simon Birch, and the short story, “The Scarlet Ibis”, teach important lessons relating to life. The stories take on different angles to approach their themes but simultaneously achieve the universal goal of moving their audiences internally. The main characters of the two pieces faced disabilities from birth. Simon, from Simon Birch, is a person of very short stature and Doodle, from “The Scarlet Ibis”, has a birth defect never directly mentioned in the story, but evidently it is quite challenging . Even though they were disabled, they never let that stand in their way of happiness.
