“You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine flashing about it.” Jonathan Edwards said this quote in his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” In my poster I drew the red and orange fire of hell with a thread above to symbolize that one has nothing to lay hold of to save himself/herself, and nothing to keep off the flames of wrath according to Edwards. I drew God’s hand at the top showing that he is holding the thread and will spare one at any moment. I colored the background at the top blue to show that god is in heaven, which is what some people call the afterlife. This image is effective because the Puritans realized that the thread is very delicate and that it could break at any moment. Edwards is trying to say that
