In the year of 1580, an Englishman named Sir Walter Raleigh made an agreement with Queen Elizabeth the first, his statement was he would be the first to create an English settlement in the United States. He had received a ten year period accomplish their little agreement, and the deal was that he would have to share the treasures he found on this settlement,if he was lucky enough to find them.He also had to manage to create a base for English ships to come to safety while they were fighting their enemy”Spain”. His first expedition began in the year of 1584 to find good location for this American\English settlement. Lucky for Raleigh, he did find a decent spot of land for their settlement they had wished to find. It was named the Roanoke colony …show more content…
He then found men scattered in terrible condition, and proceeded to give them a ride back to England. Although,what nobody had known was that one of Raleigh's ship was on its way back to the colony. Then then the two ships came across one another in the Atlantic ocean, and the new group of colonists found an abandoned settlement, which was supposedly better than the Roanoke Colony. After discovering this land they then returned back to England, but had left a small group of fifteen men on Roanoke to protect the claim of Sir Walter Raleigh's land (Roanoke). He was a skilled artist and cartographer who had originally been sent to collect information about the colony through his artistic skills. White then reinvented the Roanoke colony, but he failed to correct the colonist relationships with the natives. In some cases the even fought one another, and were outnumbered and on their own, feared for their own lives. For this was the first colony to have both women and children, one of which was White's daughter and her other family members . In time he was then convinced to return to England with a group of people to ask Sir Walter Raleigh for his help. They needed to relocate the colony , White then had left a list of instructions that if the colonists had chosen to move without his presence that they had to carve their destination on a particular tree,and if they had gotten themselves in a mess, to carve a maltese cross. When White had finally gotten to England,he discovered that the war with Spain had needed his help with difficult matters.
