Regarding the wireless network project, it is essential that we have the time and resources to conduct a site survey prior to specifying and installing the network.

First, the site survey will help us assess what other wireless networks exist in the area so that we can determine which band is needed in order to minimize interference and optimize performance. Purchasing network devices that support multiple bands including 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and other bands will cost more than purchasing devices that support a single band and will also increase the time to configure each device on the network. The survey will also make planning the network more accurate and cost effective by helping us to determine what channels and signal strength is needed relative to the other wireless networks in the area. If determined through a survey upfront, we can avoid the inevitable cost of having to purchase additional equipment such as antennas, and multiple configuration changes due to installation guesswork as to which channels and configurations will work best within our environment. The survey will also provide us with information on which buildings and paths are or are not well suited for wireless networks. If we move forward with the assumption that a wireless network will perform according to expectations and specifications only to find out after purchasing and installing equipment that a building with plaster walls has a metal frame
