Throughout time, legends and myths of monsters and ghouls have been told to frighten and scare children. While some legends may be wild and very hard to believe because of the nature of the monster, Skinwalkers are a more down to earth legend. Skinwalkers are a “monster” of legend from the Navajo tribes. In tribe legend, a Skinwalker is a harmful witch, with the power to turn into, possess or disguise themselves as animals. Such as coyotes or wolves (Phenix). From folklore to fiction, Skinwalkers have been used throughout history as a scary myth and obsession for some.

Skinwalkers originate from Navajo legends. These legends are told throughout tribes and folklore as evil entities. They’re said to be medicine people. Those medicine people who use their powers for evil were said to be cursed for doing so, cursed into being a Skinwalker. Roaming the earth causes chaos. But according to (Phenix) “In an extensive examination of the Navajo skinwalker, Legends of America writes, In order to become a Skinwalker, he or she must be initiated by a secret society that requires the evilest of deeds – the killing of a close family member, most often a sibling. After this task has been completed, the individual then acquires supernatural powers, which gives them the ability to shape-shift into animals. Most often, they are seen in the form of coyotes, wolves, foxes, cougars, dogs, and bears, but can take the shape of any animal. They then wear the skins of the animals they transform
