What exactly is a sloth? Sloths get their name from their slow movement and unlike what most people think, sloths aren’t lazy, just slow. Despite the fact that sloths are not lazy, they sleep 15 to 18 hours a day. Sloths have thick brown, slightly greenish fur from algae that will grow on their fur. They are about the size of a cat with a short or invisible tail. Sloths have sturdy long curved claws that help them stay supported in the treetops. They can live up to 20 years in the wild and, surprisingly, are great swimmers. The speed of a sloth might have something to do with their diets.
