They show that if the producer will stop advertising their smoking product, that will help to reduce the number of people that will have the idea of smoking. On April 21, 1992, in
Los Angeles, California, Novello discussed many of these issues and teen smokers was one of the biggest issues as part of an overall look at health concerns for the 1990s. Her speech is reprinted here in part from Vital Speeches of the Day, August 15, 1992. I believe in the power of a free market and the importance of advertising in making a free market operate. Advertising that is honest and gives the facts about a product is not only necessary, but good for consumers and producers alike. …show more content…
What they aren't told is that there's nothing smooth, about lung cancer and emphysema, and that your independence is restricted when you can't breathe without a respirator. Young teenagers are flooded with images of the strong, independent Marlboro man, and told that smoking Camels will give them a "smooth character." Nicotine replacement therapy is not for me. All the products gum, patches, lozenges and microbes are addictive, although they don't cause cancer.
Ex smoker friends are still chewing gum and taking the lozenges years after stopping. I decided to try Zyban which had worked for two friends. The drug affects the brain's chemistry in a way similar to nicotine and is supposed to reduce the craving
