Secondhand smoke contributes to about 34,000 premature heart diseases and more than 7,000 lung cancer deaths. There are health conditions caused by secondhand smoke, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer. Non smokers who are exposed to second hand smoke have an increased risk of developing heart disease. The risks of heart attack is increased just by breathing secondhand smoke. It can cause lung cancer in people who have never smoked. Secondhand smoke can cause unexplained deaths of infants. Key Groups and Organizations Who Should Be Involving in Action Plan
There are many different ways to address the dangers of smoking and the effects of littering. To implement any of the strategies from "Strategies for Action", key actors and organizations are vital. The strategies mentioned at the individual level include the involvement of local organizations such as healthcare clinics, schools, and the use of public health officials. The strategies mentioned at the community level require more developed organizations that target health and prevention of smoking.
Table 1 discusses the roles of organizations and actors that can contribute to combatting the health and community issues that come with smoking.
