There are two social work values I chose that were influenced by my beliefs. Social Justice and Dignity and Self-Worth of a Person. According to
Robbinson (2006), "promoting a just society by challenging injustice and valuing diversity." It exists when "all people share a common humanity and therefore have a right to equitable treatment, support for their human rights, and a fair allocation of community resources.". My Social Justice definition is actually quite similar to that of Appalachian States. I believe Social Justice has been an advocate for someone when they need it. Also making sure there are outcomes of the greater good when there are situations of Social injustice. Creating a more diverse community allows for others to feel welcome which empowers and makes everyone feel like they are welcome. My understanding of Social Injustice is the same as my definition in which we need to be there for the ones who can’t speak up themselves and need us, Social Workers, to help them.
