In this episode, the whole reason the exercise of the note cards is started is because Michael performed a Chris Rock routine that many found to be racist. It was found to be racist because he began to say the routine in an accent Michael thought to be of black man and he began to talk about child support and say the “N” word which is beeped out in the show. After people become upset over his routine he then asks if it is because he’s white. This is a racist stereotype because one of the stereotypes of African Americans is that they talk with an accent and another is that the men don’t stick around for their children. Sometimes people really do make racist remarks without realizing they’re doing so. Racism is a very touchy subject so sometimes someone may not find something to be inappropriate but others do. In one episode, Michael is holding a conference with all the employees and wants to hold an auction. He makes an example by saying “we can auction off people like in the old days”.
