Ellington (April 29,1899- May 24,1974). Ellington’s career began when he decided to form, lead and compose his own orchestra. His band gained popularity after performing for radio broadcasts at a New York City popular cotton club. Since then, Ellington became highly recognized and praised for his use of daring elements in many of his orchestral pieces. Ellington won many musical awards and led his orchestra until his death. Ellington was a son of two talented musicians and grew up in a very comfortable environment. At age 7, Ellington began playing the piano and by the age of 15, he wrote his first composition, called the “Soda Fountain Rag”. Even though
