Softball has always been a major part of my life. I began playing at the age of five and haven’t stopped. My dad put a travel team together when I was eight years old and I began to play competitively with my team, which consisted of girls from our community. These girls and their families became my family as we spent many weekends together as well as weeknights practicing on the field. I was 13 years old when I had a big change during my softball journey. I was offered a position on another nationally competitive team. Adapting to new teammates, coaches, and competition is difficult. Going through a big change like this was very stressful. The post was for private tryouts and it stated they were in need of a pitcher. My mom and I had been watching them play other elite teams and beat them like it was nothing. We were both amazed, to say the least. She suggested that it wouldn’t hurt to go try it out just to see if I could make it. I wasn’t 100% sure about the idea, but I went anyway. We arrived at the facility where the 1 on 1 tryout was being held. I was nervous and not very confident since I was trying out for such a great team. I finished the tryout and the coach liked what he saw and offered me a spot, but all I could think of was is this a good thing or a bad thing? Do I want to leave the team that I've been on since I was eight years old? Right when my parents and I got in the car, we were all shocked and weren't sure what I was going to do. After lots of tears and stress, we went over all the pros and cons of what would be best for me, and we decided to make the big change. This big change was one I could’ve ever anticipated.
