Software engineers generally need to analyze the users' needs. Once this is done, they design, construct, test, and maintain the needed soft ware or systems. During the programming, or coding, they tell a computer, line by line, how it is to function. They also fix any problems that they run into. They must have strong coding skills, but these engineers are more likely to develop algorithms and solve problems than they are to write code. Software engineers work as part of a team most of the time. The team designs new hardware, software, and systems. A core team may have engineering, marketing, factory, and design people who must work together in order to create the finished product. Software engineers usually work in well-lighted offices or labs. Most of the engineers work, at the least, 40 hours a week. If there is a big project that is due, the engineers may find themselves having to work nights or weekends to meet the product’s deadlines. Like any other person who sits for hours at a computer, computer software engineers are susceptible to eyestrain, back ache, and hand and wrist pain. Software engineers who are employed by vendors and consulting firms sometimes have to spend time away from their offices to meet with their customers. As networks begin to expand, the engineers may be able to use modems, laptops, e-mail, and the internet to find the problem, and even fix it from their own office. If I became such an engineer, my life would definitely take a turn for the better. I’d be dedicated to what I was doing, and I’d get the job done. The average yearly wages for computer applications software engineers were $87,900 in May 2008, and the average yearly wages for computer systems software engineers were $94,520. The median yearly salary for computer software engineers according to a May 2009 Bureau of Labor Statistics report was $96,620. So their pay is roughly around the $88,000-$95,000 range. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics counted 760,840 software engineers holding jobs in the U.S. Computer applications software engineers held about 514,800 jobs in 2008, while computer systems software engineers held about 394,800. Although they have jobs in most industries, many computer software engineers work in computer systems design and related services. Employers range from startups to well-known industry leaders. A growing number of these workers get jobs on a temporary basis, or work as consultants. Both computer applications software engineers and computer systems software engineers are projected to be among the fastest growing occupations from 2008 to 2018 Based on this, I think my life would definitely improve if I were to become a computer software engineer.
