1. Solomon Eliot Asch was an American Gestalt psychologist and pioneer in the social physiology society who created an experiment known as “The Asch Experiment”. The experiment consisted of a single volunteer, he was told that he is conducting a visual perception exam while unknowingly filled in a room with actors. The experiment proctor explained that there is a line on the right you must compare in length to the other three lines on the left. Throughout the test the actors were told to give the incorrect answer as a group to see if the volunteer would base his answer off of their opinion. Multiple test where administered to support the results found. “We are very social creatures” said by a physiologist in the video, “we care about what other people think, so we try to fit in by agreeing with people even when we know they are wrong.”

Group Think and how it leads to disaster is an animated video describing how a “group think” can influence your thoughts. The video shows a group of people who agree on sushi while you wanted pizza, the video goes on to explain that if you chose to reason with your friends and go for sushi instead of your previous decision it is known as “group think”. Making the same decision the group is making so you wouldn’t be seen as an outsider. This trait has been around since the evolution of man, we as individuals have many ideas and problems that could bring about a fix to a solution since the majority of the group decided not to mention it. The resolution to this problem is to be confident in your unique perspective and ideas, bring them up even if the group does not agree with them.
