Early Life Sonia Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1854 in The Bronx, NY. She is Peurto RIcan which plays a huge role in her becoming of a court judge. Her mother was a telephone operator and also worked as a nurse. Her father was a tool worker, a physician, and a professor. Sotomayor had a rough childhood with the passing of her father. Her mother, Celina, worked so much to keep in school, working six-day weeks. She already knew what she wanted to be at the age of 10. With this goal in mind she studied diligently while attending high school. She graduated valedictorian from Cardinal Spellman High School in 1972.

Schooling Coming out of highschool, she had earned herself a scholarship to study at Princeton University. Sotomayor graduated summa cum luade with her bachelor’s degree in history. During this she married her high school boyfriend, Kevin Noonan. She also went to Yale Law School in pursuit of her J.D. At Yale she showed the thought process that would shape her legal mind. She worked as an editor for the Yale Law Journal.
