As Sonny move beyond toward self-actualization, he helps narrator to find out how to listen to his inner voice. Maslow states “Self-actualization is a matter of degree, of little accessions accumulated one by one” (115). When Narrator forced Sonny to think again about his future, as a self- actualized person Sonny replied “I think people ought to do what they want to do” (263). For him music was not something to earn money but to become much closer with peoples and for the feeling that he is a living being.
