Rush forward it’s October, 1957 and Russia watches in awe as they send the first every satellite into space, which they names Sputnik. At the time there was huge tension between the two giants, America and Russia. When the U.S. caught word of this sophisticated feat of technology, we kicked up our game trying to outdo Russia. “In response, the US government created the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and entered the “space race”—a period of technological competition between the United States and its chief political rival, Russia” (Space Exploration 1). Moving a little further its April, 1961 Russia yet again breaks technological and scientific boundaries as they sent the first person to orbit earth. Cosmonaut Yuri Gargarin went down as the first person ever to enter space. But the U.S. pushed harder as we sent the first American into space, Alan Shepard. Then on July 1969, everyone watched in awe as Apollo launched into to space carrying two heroes, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong, its final destination the moon. Then “The Russians launched the first space station, Salyut 1, into space in 1971” (Space Exploration 1). Man went a long way from 1957 with the launch of the first satellite to 1969 …show more content…
The argument behind space exploration is of the same nature. Even though space exploration has helped our society to achieve advancements in our technological and scientific fields, has helped us better understand our planets and space, and might even one day save mankind from extinction, there are logical reasons to why it isn’t needed. One being its is a very risky program to have and two being that many think that it’s costing our government to much, even though its only part of one percent of our government funded programs. My intake is that you sometimes have to take risks to get anywhere in this world. Having a space exploration program is risky for the astronauts involved, but our society will benefit from there sacrifices. I believe that space exploration is needed in our society and will help us in our future
