Before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in Peru, the Inca empire was powerful and rich in gold, silver, and stones. The Spanish conquistadors arrived in Peru after two previous unsuccessful trips. For their third trip, Francisco Pizarro, Diego of Almagro, and Ferdinand of Luque (Hernando de Luque) had permission from the Spanish Crown in a treaty signed by Queen Isabella of Portugal (Queen of Spain).
