The most meaningful symbol is Piggy’s specs. In this novel they explain the importance of the specs by saying “ His specs- use them as burning glasses”(Golding 16). By reading this quote you could probably already tell that things aren’t going to go well for Piggy. This means that the other boys are most likely going to take Piggy’s glasses and use them as a survival tool. In addition to this evidence the book also states “ From his left hand dangled Piggy’s broken glasses”(Golding 171). This exemplifies that boys followed through with their plan, they took Piggy’s glasses. They used the glasses to start their fire and then broke them and gave them back to Piggy.
